Montessori in the HOme

Developing “Practical Life Skills” early in life boosts self-esteem and independence and is the foundation for learning writing, mastery of mathematics, and other more advanced lessons. Children learn kindness and respect for themselves, one another, and adults, through the Montessori way of teaching.

toileting & Self-dressing

While practicing everyday life skills such as toileting and self-dressing, children need to see it broken down and demonstrated in step-by-step directions. Please see the toileting and self-dressing visual aids below. These resources are great for school and at home!

Grace & Courtesy
helping Children learn self-discipline

Grace & Courtesy is a general attitude of graciousness and respect. We can only create it when first we model it with our actions, and then with good-natured lessons, we demonstrate the way we do things in our class, or in our home.

Three Year Cycle
Rationale & Sequence of the Material

The Montessori materials are carefully structured in a sequence and rationale that leads a child toward more advanced knowledge.

Parent Teacher Conference Follow-Up

The purpose of parent-teacher conferences is to connect and collaborate. It's a conversation to build trust and work together as a team. A great quote from Brene Brown in Rising Storm for all of us to keep in mind during our conference "life is better when I assume that people are doing their best. It keeps me out of judgment and lets me focus on what is, and not what should or could be".

Transitioning to the Oak Room
'mighty oaks from little acorns grow'

Here are some things you may notice about transitioning from the Acorn Room to the Oak Room

Cover up your cough & sneezes

During cold and flu season, we would like to express how grateful we are to our families that have kept their children home to recover and lessen the spread of illness entirely.

At school, we are encouraging the children to cover up their coughs and sneezes with their elbows, using Montessori principles for lessons on blowing your nose, coughing, and hand-washing

Keeping Children Safe & Healthy at Lunch

Learn what different foods are choking hazards for children.

Grace & Courtesy at Halloween Time

Let's make Halloween even better with grace and courtesy. In the Oak Room, we are pretending we are trick-or-treating and practicing the appropriate Halloween etiquette.

Activities and Development in the Classroom

“To assist a child we must provide him with an environment which will enable him to develop freely. A child is passing through a period of self- realization, and it is enough simply to open up the door for him.” - Dr. Maria Montessori
